Making Music with Math and Science: BMI Joint Faculty Margaret Schedel featured in Stony Brook Magazine
Professor Jonas Almeida, BMI's resident app guru, teaches and facilitates a weekly
three-hour learning hack-a-thon for BMI and Stony Brook Medicine
Information Technology data scientists. Learning together leads to
effective collaborations drawing on shared knowledge, language, and
experiences. The best ideas and understanding emerge from this weekly
event.
Agility
is not just a buzzword at Stony Brook University's Department of
Biomedical Informatics. Our data scientists are continuously evaluating
and pursuing new technology and applications to employ in research and
quality initiatives.
Congratulations!
To two BMI-affiliated faculty members who received SUNY's top honors in May 2016. We are privileged to work with these colleagues and wish them continued success.
- Dr. Laura Fochtmann of the Department of Psychiatry, received the rank of Distinguished Service Professor.
- Dr. Michael Aaron Frohman, Chair of the Department of Pharmacological Sciences, who received the rank of Distinguished Professor;
To Dr. Fusheng Wang and his team. Their paper, Bridging Physical and Virtual Worlds: Complex Event Processing for RFID Data Streams, was selected for the EDBT 2016 Test of Time Award. The International Conference on Extending Database Technology (EDBT) is a premier conference on database technologies, awards the Test of Time distinction to one paper or a small number of papers presented at EDBT earlier that have had the most impact in terms of research, methodology, conceptual contribution, or in transfer to practice over the past decade(s).
