The Biomedical Informatics Department and LINCATS recently hosted a continuing medical education (CME) bootcamp titled “Bringing Healthcare Data to Life: A Healthcare Informatics Bootcamp.”
The October 19, 2023 event, which was held at the Wang Center on the Stony Brook University campus, was a tremendous success - attracting over 140 faculty, staff and students from across Stony Brook University and Stony Brook University Hospital.
As healthcare data analytics has emerged as a transformative force within the healthcare industry, offering unprecedented insights and opportunities for improving patient outcomes, operational efficiencies, cost-effectiveness, and overall quality of care, the bootcamp provide participants with an understanding of the benefits of using available real-world data to guide decision making in healthcare, increase expertise in healthcare data analysis and interpretation, and create an awareness of the various sources/interfaces available to help explore this data inside and outside of Stony Brook.
The day-long event included educational presentations in the morning focusing on the analysis of healthcare data and the tools available to assist with this analysis, as well as interactive sessions in the afternoon that enabled participants to use the TriNetX platform to run practice data queries and/or sit in on an in-depth discussion pertaining to publicly available healthcare datasets.
