How to Apply

Requirements

The program is open to K12 students (preferrably high school students).  Students must be at least 14 years old at the start time of the program. The students should have a strong interest in pursuing a career in the field of computer science, biomedical informatics or data science. Programming experiences are required (Python, Java or other languages).  

Applications must be submitted or postmarked by March 30, 2018. All applications will be evaluated (by a committee), and qualified candidates will be interviewed for further decision after April 10th. Acceptance to the program is competitive and limited to 20 students. Applicants will be selected based on all three components (letter of recommendation, grade, computer science background).

  1. Online application form (including your scanned transcript if you use a Gmail account; otherwise send your transcript seperately to  istem@stonybrook.edu)
  2. A recommendation letter sent from your teacher. The letter could be digital or scanned and must be sent from teacher's school email address to:  istem@stonybrook.edu

Limited Scholarship for the Federal Free or Reduced Lunch Program

Limited number of full and/or partial scholarships are available to applicants who are eligible for the Federal free or reduced lunch program. Please submit a letter, on letterhead, from an official at the school district or the letter you received stating that you are eligible for the free or reduced lunch program to:
