Composition, computer music, computer-interactive performance, music technology, and the intersection of music with science and human networks.
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Daniel Weymouth is a composer who writes for a wide array of ensembles, from standard orchestra to computer-interactive instruments. He has studied and worked at several of the world’s leading computer-music facilities, including Stanford’s CCRMA, IRCAM, and CEMAMu in Paris. He joined the composition faculty of Stony Brook University in 1989, where he is Associate Professor of Composition and Theory, Director of Computer Music, and a director of cDACT, the Consortium for Digital Arts, Culture and Technology. His compositions have been performed throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States and appear on the SEAMUS and New World Records labels as well as MIT Press.
RESEARCH
Dr. Weymouth’s creative research centers on computer music and interactive performance. His scientific collaborations bring musical practice into experimental research, including a study of synchronization in complex human networks using coupled violin players, published in Nature Communications, and research with Stony Brook Medicine colleagues on music familiarity and engagement in people with Parkinson’s disease.
