Pediatric epilepsy, epilepsy surgery evaluation, EEG and high-frequency oscillations, neonatal neurocritical care, genetic epilepsies, and quality improvement in pediatric neurology.
 
BIOGRAPHY
 
Dr. Lourdes Bello-Espinosa received her medical degree from the University of Cartagena and is board certified in Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology. She completed fellowship training in Child Neurology at Stony Brook Medicine and in Clinical Neurophysiology through Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She practices as a pediatric epileptologist at Stony Brook Children’s and is a member of the Stony Brook Epilepsy Center team, with clinical interests spanning epilepsy, autism, and developmental and behavioral disorders.
 
RESEARCH
 
Dr. Bello-Espinosa’s research addresses drug-resistant pediatric epilepsy and its treatment, including epilepsy surgery and neurostimulation, intravenous immunoglobulin therapy, and infantile spasms. She has contributed to multicenter studies of high-frequency oscillations in EEG, genetic characterization of developmental and epileptic encephalopathies, neonatal neurocritical care program implementation, and informatics-enabled quality improvement, including the design of structured electronic health record notes for pediatric epilepsy care.
