BIOGRAPHY
 
Dr. Mark C. Henry received his MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He arrived at Stony Brook in 1990 as the founding Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine and led the department for more than three decades, building it to national stature in emergency medicine research. He served as Medical Director of the EMS Program for the New York State Department of Health for 22 years and as founding Chairman of the New York State Emergency Medical Advisory Committee. He has authored textbooks, chapters, and curricula for emergency medicine and EMS, including the comprehensive textbook EMT Prehospital Care, and lectures nationally and internationally.
 
RESEARCH
 
Dr. Henry’s research spans emergency medical services and emergency department operations, including public access defibrillation, prehospital response and trauma triage, cerebral oximetry during cardiopulmonary resuscitation, coronary computed tomography angiography in the emergency setting, and emergency department crowding and throughput. His collaborations with the Department of Biomedical Informatics include the rapid creation of an emergency department telehealth program during the COVID-19 pandemic and data-driven analyses of hospital capacity.
