BIOGRAPHY
 
Dr. Rachel Wong received her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and her MD from the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Stony Brook Medicine in 2011, where she also served as Chief Resident, and completed a fellowship in Clinical Informatics at Stony Brook Medicine in 2022. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Clinical Informatics. Dr. Wong has held multiple educational leadership roles in the Department of Medicine, including Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine residency and Director of the Primary Care Track, where she created the ambulatory quality improvement program and curriculum for Internal Medicine residents. She currently serves as Assistant Program Director of the Clinical Informatics Fellowship and is a member of the faculty in the Department of Biomedical Informatics.
 
RESEARCH
 
Dr. Wong’s research uses large-scale electronic health record data to study clinical outcomes and improve care delivery. She serves as Co-Chair of the Diabetes and Obesity domain team of the National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C) and as site principal investigator for the NIH RECOVER electronic health record cohort studying Long COVID, where her work examines the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 infection, glycemic control, and incident diabetes in adults and children. Her informatics work spans clinical decision support and real-time prescription benefit tools, terminology and data-quality methods for networked EHR research, and collaborations applying machine learning, natural language processing, and large language models to clinical prediction problems such as opioid overdose risk and inpatient documentation. She also leads quality improvement and educational innovation efforts, including safe opioid prescribing, telehealth training, and financial wellness programs for residents.
