Biography
Dr. Vincent W. Yang is the Simons Chair of Medicine and Professor of Medicine at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, with joint appointments in the Departments of Biomedical Informatics and Physiology & Biophysics. A physician scientist and gastroenterologist, he studies the causes and treatment of digestive diseases, particularly inflammatory bowel disease and gastrointestinal cancer.
Dr. Yang earned his PhD at Princeton University and his MD at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He trained in internal medicine and gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins, where he served on the faculty from 1989 to 2001. He then moved to Emory University School of Medicine as R. Bruce Logue Professor of Medicine and Director of the Division of Digestive Diseases, also directing the NIH-supported Emory Epithelial Pathobiology Research Development Center. He joined Stony Brook in 2011, where, in addition to chairing the Department of Medicine, he is President of Stony Brook Internists and Chief of Service for Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital.
His laboratory was the first to identify several Krüppel-like transcription factors (KLFs) and has defined their roles in intestinal epithelial biology, stem cells, and cancer. He has led numerous NIH-funded projects and has authored more than 200 articles, reviews, and chapters. He is a member of AOA, ASCI, and the Association of American Physicians, a Fellow of ACP, AGA, and AAAS, and a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He has served as an editor or editorial board member for journals including Gastroenterology, and on review panels for the NIH, the Veterans Administration, and Taiwan's National Health Research Institutes.
