Summer high school student Kavya Kopparapu named a Finalist in Regeneron Science Talent Search

Kavya Kopparapu, a summer student in Simons Summer Program of Stony Brook University, mentored by BMI and CS faculty Dr. Fusheng Wang (opens in new tab),  has been named a top 40 Finalist in the 77th Regeneron Science Talent Search—the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and mathematics competition for high school seniors.  Kavya will travel to Washington, DC in March to participate in the Finals Week competition.

Yanhui Liang successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation on 3D analytical pathology imaging

BMI Ph.D. student Yahui Liang successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation. Yanhui joined Department of Biomedical Informatics at Emory University from Peking University in 2012. She transferred to Stony Brook University in 2015. Her dissertation is on Integrative Image and Spatial Analytics for Three-Dimensional Digital Pathology. She was supervised by Dr. Fusheng Wang.  She joins Google Brain in 2018.

Thanks to pioneering work at Stony Brook Medicine, digital solutions are in development for Pathology slide specimens – the last major frontier in digitizing medical images.

Joel Saltz, MD, PhD, Chair of Biomedical Informatics at Stony Brook Medicine and a board-certified Clinical Pathologist with a PhD in Computer Science, is at the forefront of this major breakthrough.
